I'd really like to send a big thank you to all of our lovely customers - both new and loyal, and to those who have travelled far to see us, and participate in our workshops.

Eco Dyeing Workshops

Attending regular markets has provided a great opportunity to chat and let customers know about our Ecodyeing workshops. Through circumstance and often unsuspecting synchronicity, the one day personal workshops have been a welcome option for many keen to learn Eco dyeing.

I've met lots of wonderful and interesting workshop participants from around the country, bringing their own special mix of life experience, skills and creativity to the day.

The beauty of Eco dyeing is that it is open to anyone keen to learn and enjoy connecting with nature in a very direct and collaborative way. If you would love to learn the art of Eco dyeing to create your own naturally dyed, botanical prints please contact me through this website for more information. I'd love to hear from you!

Have a wonderful day! Warmest wishes,

Kerry

Winter Range

The cooler weather has inspired my dabbling and love of working with merino wool and cashmere. These beautiful protein fibers resonate magnificently with the process and creative alchemical magic of natural dyeing and botanical Eco printing. Deep, rich hues of golden browns to vibrant oranges and warm reds created from the heat released pigments and imprints of locally foraged eucalyptus leaves have been a delight to achieve over the autumn months and into early winter.

As I continue to be extremely busy with regular markets and custom orders, my mind and eyes are equally drawn to sourcing interesting garments - all seasonally specific and in sync with the stylish, organic simplicity that reflects the essence of our wearable art textiles.

Our one of a kind, naturally dyed Eco print pieces encompassing soft and luxurious cashmere scarves, merino wool vests and jumpers have become an exciting inclusion, adding to the warmth and integrity of our 100% natural fiber clothing range.

There is an understated yet breathtakingly beautiful honesty to naturally dyed, botanical Eco printed garments. As human beings we are drawn to these nature-based concepts, where organic colour, images and materials shape our world and experiences - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Why not nurture yourself naturally, just as nature intended.

Gallery Happenings

I've been very lucky to be part of a collaborative exhibition at Maitland Regional Art Gallery with ceramicist Katherine Mahoney. The project involved the creation of homeware Eco dye textile pieces to compliment Katherine's stunning ceramics. As a textile artist with a focus on natural dyes and botanical leaf imprints, it was so lovely to have the opportunity to capture and highlight the organic, tactile nature of Katherine's pieces with textiles.

On Saturday 30th April, Katherine and I enjoyed being at the gallery together for a Meet the Maker Morning Tea, organised by the amazing team at Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG).. It was such a wonderful morning, meeting so many lovely people and chatting about our individual practice(s).

Exhibition Items for sale including Katherine's ceramics, my Eco dye table cloths, runners and napkins (together with a range of my eco print silk scarves and beaded necklaces) are available in the gallery gift shop.

Artist in Focus - Katherine Mahoney and our collaborative works will be on exhibition at MRAG until 22nd May.

Market fever

April is shaping up to be one of our biggest months for markets so far, with one down and three more to go.

The fun continues next Saturday April 9 at Handmade Hunter Markets, Kevin Sobel’s Winery Pokolbin in the heart of ‘wine country’ in the beautiful Hunter Valley.

We are really enjoying our regular involvement in this market and always love meeting new faces – from locals to international visitors exploring what this great region (and country) has to offer. It always warms my heart when I see people’s faces light up when they learn that our eco print scarves are not only handmade and one-of-a-kind, but created from the colours and imprints of real Australian eucalyptus leaves! It really does give them a sense of location and connectedness to place, which they can continue to enjoy with each item they choose to buy.

At this Saturday’s Pokolbin market we will be showcasing our new range of eco print clothing – tops and dresses, and our extensive range of naturally dyed eco print silk scarves and wraps. I began creating eco print scarves out of a love for working with silk and the opportunity to celebrate Australian native flora through botanical ecoprints. The expansion into clothing has been gently, yet repeatedly encouraged by customer demand and interest. We have lots of exciting ideas to expand our business further but for now, one step at a time!

I look forward to Saturday and hope to see you at our Kerry Shepherd Textiles stall, at Handmade in the Hunter Markets. If I miss you then, our next markets will be at

  • Handmade in the Hunter Market  saturday 16 April
  • The Olive Tree Market, Maitland Art Gallery 23 April

Warmest,

Kerry
